Hi! I'm Ashley. I'm a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, founder of The Happy Gut Solution. I specialize in women's hormonal health and digestive issues. For most of my early life, I struggled with several health issues, from food allergies, asthma and a very weak immune system to being overweight, having severe PMS, digestive issues and anxiety. Growing up as a competitive dancer, I was very self-conscious about my weight and body image and no matter what I did, I couldn't understand why I was always overweight. As I got older, I turned to different diets and various workout programs with results and success that never lasted. It wasn't until I was in my 20's when I started struggling with chronic migraines, severe PMS and digestive issues that I decided there had to be more to it then dieting and exercise. It's been a long journey to where I'm at today and I'm constantly learning and evolving. Through my own research and education, I've not only discovered a sustainable way of living that allows me to thrive but I've also developed a passion for health and wellness and a desire to help other women. Focusing on real foods and sustainable lifestyle changes has always been my philosophy and approach as a practitioner. My mission now is to help other women feel empowered in their own bodies and to get to the root of their own health issues. Aside from being an Registered Holistic Nutritionist, some of my other passions include yoga, hiking, reading, teaching dance classes and baking healthy treats!
Diet and exercise is extremely important and is definitely something I focus on with my clients. But let's be clear, there is no such thing as the perfect diet. We are all biochemically unique beings and there is no one size fits all approach. In our work together we will determine the right diet (way of eating) for you that will allow you to thrive. I don’t believe in "dieting" and I definitely don't believe in restriction. What I do believe in, is a whole foods based diet that incorporates a variety of macro and micro nutrients specific to each individual. I also believe in balance, nobody is perfect, I certainly am not! I also believe in taking into account lifestyle factors like work, sleep, stress, age, environmental factors, among many others. I also believe in supplementation when appropriate. I believe you can successfully incorporate healthy habits into your life and achieve your goals by implementing an individualized plan.
Part of your individualized plan will include a detox. Detoxing will clear out toxins from your body and give your digestive system a break to heal and restore naturally, before introducing new eating habits and food. Our goal is to set you up for success and shift the way you relate to food.
There is no question that the majority of us experience stress in our daily lives. Stress is inevitable but our response to it and how we cope with it is vital to our health. Why? When we are under a great deal of stress our entire body becomes affected. Our body starts pumping out cortisol (our major stress hormone) which takes away from the production of other essential hormones. This can lead to a variety of hormonal imbalances including PMS, weight gain, PCOS and hypothyroidism to name just a few. When our body is in a constant stressful state, digestion also slows down or can stop all together. This leads to a variety of other issues such as IBS, leaky gut, autoimmunity and allergies to name a few. All of my programs focus on lifestyle changes that incorporate stress management through simple daily habits & techniques.
Functional Lab Testing is an extremely useful tool in order to get a clearer health picture so I can better customize a plan that supports your specific needs and health concerns. I offer hair mineral analysis, food sensitivity testing, stool testing as well as hormone testing to my clients who are ready to take a deeper dive.
